4th: Eat Your Greens

One of the best things to keep your heart healthy, chakras and all, is to eat your greens! Green vegetables, especially the leafy kind, are full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. One vitamin in particular, Vitamin K, protects your arteries by keeping them flexible and promotes proper blood clotting.

Avocado makes my greens list, too! Although it is a fruit, I treat it more like a vegetable where I can add it to any meal anytime. It is loaded with monounsaturated fats (the good fats) which have been shown to lower cholesterol and to help you feel full and satisfied. Avocado has lots of potassium which can help our favorite muscle, our heart, to regulate fluids, send nerve signals, and control muscle contractions.

Another green that is important to the heart is green tea! Matcha too! The polyphenols and catechins act as antioxidants which can prevent cell damage and reduce inflammation. Regularly drinking green tea can lower your blood pressure and reduce your cholesterol.

The great thing about these greens is that they are easy to incorporate to any meal! Hide some kale in your spaghetti sauce, add avocado to your eggs and sandwiches, or keep some cold-brew green tea in the fridge for a refreshing summer drink!
