2nd: Divine Mother

Our second chakra is where we house our desires to create and our true emotions. It is orange and is about four inches below the belly button. This chakra has both a cone in the front and in the back, meeting at the spine in the lumbar vertebrae. Some physical manifestations of this chakra being out of balance is lower back pain, or even reproductive problems. It can also result in addictive behavior or rigid beliefs.

Many of our second chakra issues have resulted from poor parenting or lack of emotional support growing up. We do not need to blame them as it is not necessarily their fault, as they were often doing what society or their parents taught them to do. One way to help us heal from this is to rewrite your childhood history. This entails you going back to a few of your most trying moments from your childhood and imagining your mother holding you and saying everything is going to be ok.

This process could be easy for you if you had a wonderful mom or a very nurturing dad, but many of us had less than ideal parents. If this is the case, then you could imagine the goddess energy of the Universe giving you the most wonderful hug. This goddess could be the Divine Mother, Virgin Mary, Mother Earth, or Shakti. Maybe simply an enveloping Love and Light. Her arms are wrapped around your whole body, hugging, loving, and supporting you. She has so much to give that she can fill your whole history and future with love and light, from the shock of being born, to every scraped knee, and to every spilt milk.

She has forever been there for you, and will always be there with you. She helps us bridge the gap and connect our personal identity and security (first chakra) with our self-worth and power (third chakra). Balancing this chakra is imperative for bringing new life to the planet, manifesting desires, and incubating creativity. Let the Divine Mother be your muse!
