My Path, Your Path, Our Path

What if Earth is a giant school? A school with classes from Kindergarten to Masters, and everything in between. What if all humans on this planet are students attending this school?

Now, imagine you are in twelfth grade and you are learning calculus. One day, you are walking through school and you cross paths with a first grader, Sally.

If you start up a conversation with Sally, talking about calculus, she will not be able to understand you; she is currently learning addition and subtraction.

Not only would Sally think you are talking nonsense, but if she were to look at your math textbook she would see nothing but gibberish and strange symbols.

Calculus looks like gibberish to a first grader.

Even if you explained some of the concepts of calculus to her, she would not be in a place in her own education to understand it. Sally is still learning the more fundamental concepts of math; she has not yet learned the foundation which advanced mathematics is built upon.

You could teach her calculus, but you would have to first teach her addition and subtraction, then multiplication and division, then algebra, and so on. There are many steps between where she is in her education, and where you are in yours.

To put it simply, Sally is at a different level of awareness than you.

We are all on different paths.

We all have different levels of awareness.

Instead of thinking, “I know more than her,” we can have compassion for what she is learning in first grade. And, we can even get excited for Sally and all of the learning and growing she will do on her journey!

Living in our hearts can help us to have empathy for Sally by remembering when we, ourselves, were in first grade. Maybe we can remember some of the things we learned back then and share our experiences with her.

All we can do is offer.

In all honesty, unless you are her relative, or a family friend, or a teacher, she might not want to learn from you or choose to listen to what you have to say. Only Sally can agree to receive what you have to share.

If the tables were reversed and you were in first grade and Sally was in twelfth, attempting to teach you calculus, would you be able to release judgment and celebrate that you are learning? Would you feel badly because she knows more than you? Would you be open to learning from someone who has already learned what you are studying?

We are all learning, growing, healing, and evolving.

Each of us is on our own path and learning our own lessons. We are exactly where we need to be on our individual and collective paths at all times. Everyone’s path is just as magical and wondrous as another’s, even if we are learning different things at different times.

We can have complete compassion for all others, regardless of where they are on their paths.

On the spiritual path, Enlightenment and Ascension are fairly abstract. It can be hard to sense where someone is on their journey, or even where we are on ours. Each of us can only see a small part of the bigger picture. This Divine Plan is so huge, and because we cannot see it in its entirety, we cannot judge anyone or anything.

Ultimately, if we can get to a place of releasing judgment then we can live in a place of compassion:

Compassion for yourself; where you are on your own path.

Compassion for others; where they are on their path.

Compassion for the bigger picture; we are all in a state of learning.
